On the Listening Post this week, the U.S. media share about Obama's proposed health care reform, and double standards for foreign and local journalists in Afghanistan. We begin this week with a look at Barack Obama's health care reform debate that is still in full swing by the American airwaves. It is less a media debate, as it is an all-out dogfight. The opposing views seem irreconcilable, the midfield is shrinking non-existent, and the mainstream media are not supported. BuzzwordsBoards as death, the government taking over and slippery slope to socialism are all over the corporate media, but where are the votes that Obama elected and will be helped as are the big money lobbyists of private health facilities interests and insurance companies through the media to obtain their views on? And what the American public who are caught up and confused in the cross fire? In part two listening posts Meenakshi Ravi reports on Afghanistan and the dangers are reporting forForeign journalists and local level. On 9 September, a NATO team rescued a New York Times correspondent Stephen Farrell from his kidnappers Taliban. Farrell Afghan colleagues Sultan Munadi have not read it live - and his body would be abandoned by his rescuers. The story was reported, two routes to the West, the focus on the Times reporter and the British soldier who died in the gunfight in Afghanistan, was the story about the reporter, who died and whether the military attack wasa good idea ...
